Old Town is simply one of the most charming neighborhoods Chicago has to offer. It maintains an old town feel while offering some of the best bars, restaurants, and shops in the city. Several homes date back to the turn of the 20th century and the architecture has been meticulously preserved. Designated a Chicago landmark in 1977 and listed on The National Register of Historic Places in 1984, Old Town is a Chicago jewel rich in history. The cause of the great chicago fire seems to be blamed on Mrs. O’Leary’s cow that legend has it kicked over a lantern in the barn beginning one of the largest disasters to strike the city in history. Old town was destroyed and rebuilt following the disaster of 1871 by German Immigrants. The architecture of this neighborhood is a treasure and gives one the sense of stepping back in time with all the luxuries and conveniences of modern day. Old Town borders the Gold Coast on LaSalle Ave and runs west to Clybourn St. Its boundaries also run south from North Ave. to Division. Its main road is Wells Street connecting Division and North Ave, there are countless boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants along this street. The Second City comedy club is on its border at North Avenue and is a very popular attraction for those visiting the neighborhood and locals alike. The piper’s alley theater plays independent films and is very popular. Also worth mentioning is the Old Town School of Folk Music which reflects the eclectic mix this neighborhood offers to its residents.
Working With An Agent >Real Estate Agent Representation
Which party in a real estate transaction is represented by the real estate agent--the buyer or the seller? Until recently that question was never asked because the answer was always the same. Traditionally all the marketing professionals involved in real estate transactions were legally and ethically obligated to conduct business on behalf of the seller. They may have aided the buyer in certain situations, but their client was the seller. Today that is not necessarily the case.
In a time of increasing specialization, buyers can be represented by a real estate agent who functions solely as a buyer's broker. In this case, the sales professional helps the buyer locate a home, negotiate the price, and is responsible to the buyer only, for an agreed-upon fee or a percentage commission.
In any real estate transaction you have the right to know which party the real estate agent is representing.
