Recognized as Chicago’s most exclusive neighborhood, the Gold Coast has a long history of being home to the elite and wealthy. Located West from Michigan Avenue to LaSalle and North Ave South to Chicago Ave, this small area boasts some of the most valuable real estate in the city of Chicago. The Gold Coast is believed to have taken its name from the African coastline of the same name, but its draw to those seeking luxury and willing to spend top dollar to get it also explains why the name has stuck. It is one of Chicago’s oldest neighborhoods and caters to the affluent because its location is ideal. Its close proximity to the lake and easy access to Oak Street beach make it very popular in the summer time and offer amazing lake views for homebuyers all year long. Gold Coast is located alongside the “Mag Mile” a mile of premiere shopping spanning from the Chicago River to Oak Street. The best shops in the city such as Armani, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton, are located here and open their doors each day to those willing to pay more for the quality and distinction of buying designer brands. It is also just far enough north of the busy Loop to offer quieter residential streets and some street parking, though it can still be a challenge. The shopping is top notch but access to famous theaters, world-class museums, and seemingly unlimited fine dining restaurants is a big part of the appeal as well. All that downtown Chicago has to offer is within your grasp and at your doorstep if you are a resident of the Gold Coast. The Great Fire of 1871 actually destroyed much of the area with the exception of the Water Tower building, which now holds several shops and restaurants. Also dominant in its landscape is the famous John Hancock building which is often times mistaken for the Sears tower due to its overwhelming size. The Hancock when it was first constructed boasted that it was the largest building in the world but has more recently been eclipsed by the Sears tower. There is a fine dining restaurant and martini lounge with spectacular views within the Hancock building. Due to its age and prestige several homes have been dedicated Chicago Landmarks and are a proud part of the cities’ history. It is a wonderful mix of historic graystones and modern high rises.
Selling Your Home >Marketing Techniques
When a seller lists a home with a real estate agent, a lot of brainstorming follows. Who are the potential buyers, where do they live and work? How can they be reached effectively with information that will attract them to this particular property?
In addition to advertising each home on the widely used Multiple Listing Service, professional real estate agents employ marketing techniques tailored to the individual home they are selling. An agent will review various buyer lists to find potential purchasers. They will use telephone and direct mail marketing, produce property flyers and advertise on the Internet, in the newspaper, in community publications and in real estate magazines. Contacts will be made to other agents who sell homes in the area to encourage them to show the home to prospective buyers.
Real estate agents combine pro-active marketing with realistic pricing to generate results for their home sellers.
